Lanakila OC1 Race Recap

Danny Ching

Updated: Mar 2, 2019

He's on FIRE!!!!!

The Lanakila Classic long course always seems to be grind. This year was no exception. The OC1 mens race was a closely contested race between three regulars this year. New comer to the front pack Noam Elroi, battled it out with this years Favorite Ryland Hart and perennial front runner Danny Ching. This three spent the first half of the race side by side, a common theme daily in King harbor. On the down hill leg of the race Danny made a break from the group and opened up a distinct 100 yard lead over Ryland who had separated from Noam. Danny looked strong as he paddled up and over the small lackluster downwind portion of the course. With 2 miles to the finish Danny's dominance started to waiver. In a matter of a few minutes Ryland capitalized and reversed positions with Danny. Ryland looked calm and comfortable as he glided his way to another 1st place finish. That is Ryland's third victory in row. Ryland is on Fire, and just in time. His next race is Sunday March 3rd in Hawaii. Danny recovered from his stumble and managed to hold a 30 sec gap over Noam at the finish.
